The head of the parliament of Zimbabwe spoke in the State Duma with support for the SVO
The SVO in Ukraine is based on Russia's legitimate concerns for its security.
Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of the Republic of Zimbabwe Jacob Mudenda said this while speaking at a plenary meeting of the State Duma, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The special military operation in Ukraine, although presented in the most negative light in the Western media, is based on legitimate historical security concerns associated with NATO and the United States pursuing relentless expansionist policies, and poses an undeniable threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Russia.” , Mudenda said.
He recalled that on March 2, Zimbabwe abstained from voting at the UN for a resolution condemning Russia.
“This conflict is complex and has deep roots in history and geopolitics... After the collapse of the USSR, NATO continued its scorched earth policy and continued to move closer to Russian borders. The Russian Federation was literally surrounded by opponents. Nato's overt attempts to include Ukraine in its membership aroused Russia's fears for its security.
This political context must be taken into account. The Russian Federation justifiably feels threatened by the presence of NATO's nuclear arsenal at arm's length from its borders. The SVO must be viewed within this context and is therefore a proactive step aimed at defending against the inevitable adversary of NATO, which is underpinned by American hegemonic aspirations for an undesirable unipolar world. He certainly cannot be trusted to maintain peace and security,” concluded Mudenda.
According to him, Zimbabwe does not believe that the UN resolution condemning Russia, as well as a series of sanctions, are the right way to resolve the crisis.
