“We are not in a position to cooperate on a military level right now, but our political leaders will interact and try to find common ground and a path forward,” Mattis said.
The Pentagon chief also said that Russia “must adhere to the commitments it made under the agreement with NATO.”
According to J. Mattis, he “has little doubt that Russia interfered or attempted to interfere in elections in democratic countries.”
The Russian side, on the contrary, denies interference in the US election campaign. “You must understand that we do not interfere in the internal affairs of other states,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday at a meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
The Russian Federation also declares its intention to establish cooperation with the United States, including in the military sphere, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Thursday.
At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin today announced the importance of restoring dialogue between the intelligence services of the United States, Russia and other NATO countries.
