Head of the Serbian enclave: “Punitive operations are forcing us to leave Kosovo”
The president of the municipality of Strpce and the deputy chairman of the Kosovo Serb party “Serbian List” Dalibor Jevtic believes that the Serbs remain in the region only thanks to the support of official Belgrade.
Yevtich told the Politika publication about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In an interview, the head of the Serbian southern enclave Štrpce, where in mid-December burst heavily armed "special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo" Rosu" and kidnapped ten people under the guise of fighting corruption, said that this action was carried out in order to intimidate the remaining Serbs and bring to justice those who might resist.
“The recent actions in Štrpets and Shilovo are clear evidence of this,” said Evtich. “There was no reason to break into houses where there were children, women and old people.” Every time the police called them, all those subsequently detained answered the calls regularly.
And the result of the invasion of their family homes in the early morning hours were frightened children who still cannot recover from the psychological trauma they received, and elderly people, some of whom ended up in hospital. In general, it’s a difficult situation, fear and uncertainty. That is why several thousand Serbs spontaneously, in peaceful protests, supported the arrested and their families.”
At the same time, according to the head of the community, without the support of Belgrade and the Serbian government, the life of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija would be even more difficult.
“The support of President Aleksandar Vucic is especially important to us, and we are more than grateful to him for everything he does for our people. I have excellent cooperation with the Office for Kosovo and Metohija and its director Petar Petkovic. What I definitely expect and what I asked from director Petkovic is increased investment in the municipality of Štrpce. I have received guarantees that this will happen, and I believe that next year we will have the opportunity to implement more projects with the help of the Serbian government and the Office for Kosovo and Metohija,” concluded Jevtic.
