“I am sure that Crimea will soon become the pearl of Russia and will be no worse than foreign resorts,” Menyailo said.
Analyzing the results of the past two years of life as part of Russia, he noted that the main result is calm. “People calmed down, their wish came true, which literally every Sevastopol resident had been nurturing for more than 20 years. They walk calmly along the city streets. There are no patrols, no machine gunners,” Menyailo said.
The governor considers it an important achievement that all social programs of the Russian Federation operate on the territory of the peninsula. “People today have stability. They understand that here in Crimea they are under the protection of their state. There is a prospect of growth for young people in particular. There has been complete integration into all spheres of Russian life. All social programs operate in Sevastopol and Crimea. Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, who had been waiting for housing since the 80s, received it,” Menyailo said.
At the same time, he noted the existence of objective difficulties. “The level of wages is not what we would like, but much higher than in Ukraine. The farm that we got... The networks are 80% worn out, the roads have not been repaired for more than 20 years, major repairs have not been carried out since Soviet times, elevators have not been replaced for more than 25 years. We cannot do everything at once,” Menyailo said.
Nevertheless, the governor believes, the difficulties did not change the choice of Sevastopol residents. “We don’t consider ourselves guilty of anything. Ask anyone on the street. They will say: don’t tell us how to live. We need to come to terms with the idea that people wanted to return home. Why is someone trying to ban them? Why is the situation escalating around Crimea? Let's remember some European states where there was a similar expression of will, and everyone took it normally. Why do you have double standards? Have the courage to admit your mistake,” concluded Menyailo.
