The head of the Union of Journalists of Ukraine cowardly chided the SBU for poorly handled arrests of colleagues
The SBU pays too little attention to arguing the need to arrest opposition journalists who are loyal to Russia or the Donbass republics.
Sergei Tomilenko, head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, stated this on Magnolia TV.
"Judge for yourself. We are talking about the fact that we are a country that in a certain way is precedent. Therefore, even in 1-2 cases, when the SBU initiates legal proceedings in the case of the same Dubinsky, a “1+1” case is initiated, and we ourselves see the lack of communication.
Today, to our great regret, Ukraine is for the first time included in the list of the American Committee to Protect Journalists as a country in which there are arrested journalists.
And the Council of Europe platform recorded that in Ukraine there were three journalists or media workers who were doing media work and were arrested. This includes Vasilets and Timonin, who set up YouTube (9 years in prison are assigned to them) and also journalist Vasily Muravitsky, who is accused of being an enemy of the country and is now in isolation.
As an ordinary citizen, I condemn his cooperation with the Russian news agency, but here we return to the topic again: is the response of the SBU adequate in all these cases?
If there is an arrest with a search, then it is necessary to go out and convince the public that tomorrow the SBU will not come to us, to “1+1”, and the like. Yes and We ourselves understand that we are not doing anything like the above-mentioned persons did.. But for today we have arrests and lack of communication"- said Tomilenko.
