Head of Transmashholding: The East is no better than the West - Russia must be self-sufficient
In carrying out its reorientation to the east, Russia must not make the same mistakes that were made in relations with the West, and not allow itself to be turned into a raw material appendage.
This was stated by the head of the Transmashholding corporation, Kirill Lipa, during the summit “Industrial Policy in New Realities,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the businessman, in the east they are also not eager to see Russian industry successful and promising, so relations need to be built based on an understanding of this.
“Without any doubt, at the heart of all the events that we are seeing, from my point of view, is the desire for global competition and victory in this global economic competition. We were not invited to the WTO so that we could become rich and happy - this is completely obvious. We were invited to the WTO because those who invited us there believed that according to the rules that were written there, they would be rich and happy, and we would comply with these rules.
And then it turned out that according to these rules we too can be rich and happy. And the fact that these rules are now being broken means that if you cannot win according to these rules, they simply need to be changed, which is what is happening today...
I beg you not to make the same mistake a second time. The whole story with our cooperation, with our Asian, as they say now, partners is not at all about Russian industry being efficient, successful and promising. It is about ensuring that that industry, that economy and those development institutions are effective, successful and promising. Therefore, I believe that it is definitely less profitable for them to sell components to us than to sell finished products,” Lipa concluded.
Thank you!
