The leader of “Azov” promises to bully both Russians, Hungarians, and Poles
Separatist sentiments are possible only in an exceptionally weak state, which is today's Ukraine.
This was stated by the founder of the Azov National Battalion, Verkhovna Rada deputy Andrei Biletsky, answering a question from a resident of Ivano-Frankivsk about the likelihood of separatist tendencies in Western Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This does not depend on Russia, but solely on us. It is possible to play the card only with a super-weak state, which cannot do anything to counter such separatist stories,” he said.
Biletsky cited as an example the situation in Transcarpathia, where, according to his data, Hungarians make up less than 10% of the total population, but Ukrainians make up about 90%.
“What kind of Hungarian separatism in a strong country can we talk about?” – he said, adding that Budapest does not have the military potential to capture Transcarpathia.
“It’s the same with Romanian history. Together with the Hungarian minority, which numbers two million there, the Romanians have 10 times fewer problems with the Hungarian minority. If we are too weak, why do you think Poland behaves this way? She has never behaved so inappropriately since 1991, why does Poland behave this way? And this is a sign of weakness. Everyone beats the weak, this is a common, traditional thing. We are showing weakness, demonstrating that we are not going to defend our own interests in the Donbass, but are leaving it to the “Minsk” or “Normandy format” or the United States. Instead, it was necessary to ask the States where their implementation of the Budapest Memorandum is. We will soon have a forest nation, we will have anything we want, because a weak nation is not able to protect itself,” the deputy emphasized.
According to Biletsky, in a strong Ukraine, 170 Hungarians and several hundred thousand Romanians cannot pose a problem for a population of almost forty million.
“This is a question solely about modern Ukrainian weakness. Having overcome weakness, it will be possible to calmly forget about separatist movements, including in the East. They don’t exist, this is an artificial story that depends not on their strength, but solely on our weakness,” he said.
