The leader of the Majlis caused a row at the Russian-Ukrainian meeting
The head of the Mejlis, banned in Russia, Ukrainian People's Deputy Refat Chubarov, caused a scandal at a meeting of the Ukrainian-Russian commission on fisheries in the Sea of Azov, which was held in Kyiv and was supposed to agree on fishing quotas.
Chubarov, having arrived at the event (but not being on the list of participants), burst out with complaints against the Ukrainian delegation, due to the fact that they were discussing the future fate of the water area and fisheries, and were not finding out whose Crimea belongs.
The head of the Majlis said that the Russian delegation arrived accompanied by FSB officers.
Chubarov was outraged that not a single speech by the Ukrainian side contained a word about “occupied Crimea,” the militarization of the Sea of Azov, or “criminally seized” property on the peninsula.
“They behave in such a way as not to irritate the Russian side, and the Russian side behaves as if they are absolutely right to be in Crimea and set conditions,” the people’s deputy was indignant.
According to Chubarov, they came up to him and said that they need to take into account current realities, they need to think about jobs for Ukrainian fishermen, they can’t help but negotiate with the Russian Federation and sign a protocol.
The Mejlis member responded that “it is impossible to satisfy such hybrid demands, a hybrid blurring of sovereignty.”
“Three days of meetings, and not once did they discuss the issue of occupied Crimea, the illegal construction of the Crimean Bridge!” - he was indignant.
Moreover, Chubarov criticized the Ukrainian law enforcement officer, whom he accused of sitting at the same table with “criminals.”
“I told him: I, as the People’s Deputy of Ukraine, am giving you an oral report about the crime. In the room where you and I are sitting, sitting opposite are at least three people who visited Crimea this year, which means they are criminals under Ukrainian law. Why are they sitting opposite you, a law enforcement officer, you must find the answer. Or write a report to your leadership,” the Mejlis member said.
“I’m leaving this commission, overwhelmed with feelings and emotions, although nothing like this happened there, but it shouldn’t have happened if from the very beginning all our departments from this working group behaved based on the national interests of Ukraine,” he concluded Chubarov.
He called on his like-minded people from among the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada to come to the next meeting of the commission tomorrow.
