Yuri Kovalchuk: “The main thing is that Petya doesn’t drift away to visit”

KtHDbBXnTUAYuri Kovalchuk, a journalist from Kherson, who came to Kramatorsk to cover the events of the revolution in Donbass

All the last days before today's cannonade in Slavyansk, Donbass was preparing for the assault. Among the militias in Kramatorsk, tensions increased daily - despite the relative calm on the front line.

At checkpoints and in smoking rooms, the rebels are discussing recent statements by Poroshenko, who promised to visit Donbass the day after the inauguration, which, as announced today, will take place on Saturday, June 7. “That means they will storm,” the young militiaman states without emotion. "It's nothing. The main thing is that Petya doesn’t shy away from coming to visit,” the elderly bearded Cossack laughs.

If the self-proclaimed President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko deceives the militia, he will not come. He has already deceived me once, promising to end the war against Novorossiya (ATO according to the junta) in a matter of days and even hours. An attempt to demoralize the militia by mass murder of civilians failed. The escalation of violence only caused an influx of volunteers into the ranks of the people’s militia and such fierce hatred on the part of ordinary people that if Poroshenko’s chocolate bunny fell into the hands, they would instantly be torn to pieces.

But the 5th Ukrainian president, of course, will only send new hordes of punitive forces to the Donbass instead of himself. After the joyless inauguration, he himself will teach Ukraine, which is being torn apart, to “live in a new way.” The appearance of Petro Poroshenko on the day of the inauguration on the Maidan is also doubtful. In general, the coronation will have to be celebrated in a very narrow circle, without inappropriate celebrations.

Poroshenko’s only fulfilled promise was “life in a new way.” New geographical contours, a forceful seizure of power, a protracted civil war in the east, trampling of the constitution and a trash tent under the guise of elections - this has never happened before. But nothing scares Poroshenko, who with fatalism climbs to the throne that has not yet cooled down from Turchynov. Ukrainian politics has long gravitated towards burlesque, and more recently it has finally turned into a bloody den, so no violations of laws and no circumstances will stop Poroshenko-Valtsman. The most important thing is the label for princeling received from the US State Department.

But picking up a symbolic mace is much easier than holding it. Moreover, along with very dubious powers and a tarnished status, one will also have to shoulder a very heavy responsibility. Responsibility that could easily reach the Hague Tribunal.

I would like to advise Petro Poroshenko to “have fun” at the inauguration to the maximum, since he will probably have a very short and joyless reign. Probably with a very disastrous outcome, because the circumstances are not conducive to a positive ending. The Ukrainian economy is located in a place that is so revered by tolerant Europeans. The war in the east is obviously lost, even if the bones of civilians are paved all the way from Donetsk to Kyiv. The regions are restless, and the insidious Tymoshenko is constantly muddying the waters behind her. Russia and China are looking forward to the opportunity to organize a new Nuremberg in Ukraine, and Europe can “see the light” and join them at any moment. And the United States, as you know, values its traitors very low, generally preferring to get rid of them.

The future fate of Ukraine is now clearly not only a subject of dispute, but also a subject of bargaining. Apparently, the scenario developed by the United States will not take place, and therefore global players in the foreseeable future will decide the fate of the fragmented state through agreement. And then the public flogging of the “switchmen” will begin, among whom Petro Poroshenko is preparing to finally join on June 7. Honestly, it would be better for Poroshenko on this day, instead of the inauguration, to quietly go somewhere warmer. Otherwise, the triumph of democracy would not turn into a strange accident for him, which often happens to disposable friends of Americans.
