Ukraine is not able to protect its institutions and citizens from cyber attacks, so the only thing left to do is not to panic in the event of a massive shutdown of the Internet and mobile communications.

Former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andrei Zagorodnyuk stated this during a conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The risks that hybrid threats will intensify, these threats are becoming more and more relevant for us. Therefore, this is a big problem, as in any war we talk about capabilities, the question is how adequate our capabilities are to the existing challenges.

Let's give an example: New Sanzhary, in order to extinguish this story, the Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Health went there. If there are ten such new sanzhars at one time, then the question is how capable we are of dealing with such a challenge,” he said.

In addition, the politician noted that Ukrainian cybersecurity is lagging behind by global standards.

“We understand for sure that for a long time our critical infrastructure used Russian programs that did not meet security standards; we do not know how many bookmarks were left there. But we must understand that at the moment “H” they will be activated. We definitely understand that our cyber capabilities are shrinking every day, but the question is that we are just catching up.

In any case, if we look at the situation in the US, where they pride themselves on their capabilities, we realize that this is a guaranteed lag. You see, we will never understand where the very hole that was used is. The question of cyber warfare is how quickly we can rebuild our critical infrastructure and protect it, how low we can fall and how quickly we can rise,” reasoned Zagorodnyuk.

The former Minister of Defense also added that at the moment Ukraine is not able to resist cyber attacks.

“It’s not even a question of countering these threats, because at the moment this is unrealistic for us. Why am I saying this... if our communications and the Internet are cut off, let's not panic, understand that this can happen, because we are at war with a country that is inventing a hybrid war.

In this case, we must understand that unpleasant events will happen and we need to be psychologically prepared for this and not shout “everything is lost” if this happens, because this is what our enemy is counting on,” concluded Zagorodnyuk.
