About this official stated in an interview with the Kyiv newspaper Segodnya.
“We counted only 145 monuments in Kyiv that need to be demolished! This is a huge amount and expense. They are dedicated to Soviet figures and are being demolished. According to the law, even on the Walk of Fame it is necessary to demolish monuments to those people who are immortalized there because they served in the KGB,” - said the Kisser.
The chief architect of Kyiv also considers it inappropriate to change the Soviet symbols on the shield of the Motherland Monument to the Ukrainian trident coat of arms and proposes to demolish the entire monument.
“The shield of the sculpture of the Motherland depicts the coat of arms of the USSR, a non-existent country. I heard that this coat of arms will be removed by climbers, and in its place there will be a trident... But then a lot of questions will arise for the sculpture itself: after all, it is dedicated to the fight against fascism. And then suddenly there is a small coat of arms of independent Ukraine on it. How to explain this to children? I honestly wouldn't touch this shield. If we’re going to demolish it, then the entire sculpture, but then the question arises: where to get the money for this,” he says.
In the center of Kyiv, the chief architect proposes to build a funeral memorial in honor of the fallen Euromaidan militants.
“I believe that we need to start creating a memorial park on Maidan, where each tree symbolizes someone who died on Instytutskaya and beyond. Install illuminated signs with the names of the heroes of the “Heavenly Hundred.”
