The main ship of the Ukrainian Navy is hastily sent for repairs: Poroshenko needs to “cut” the money
The patrol ship Hetman Sahaidachny, the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy and perhaps the only combat-ready unit, is being sent for repairs, despite Kyiv's repeated statements about the growing Russian threat.
The reason, most likely, lies in the fact that the 90 million dollar contract will be received by Petro Poroshenko’s Kiev plant “Leninskaya Kuznya”. Initially, the terms of the competition stated that the contract would be awarded to an enterprise with access to the sea. For this purpose, Poroshenko’s plant entered into an agreement with an enterprise in Ilyichevsk - on its premises, Kuznya specialists from Kyiv will carry out repairs of Sagaidachny, reports the Odessa website “Dumskaya”.
Russian military expert Vlad Shurygin explained to PolitNavigator that the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy really needs repairs - in the time since the victory of Euromaidan, the old Soviet ship has seriously deteriorated.

Valentin Filippov: Ukrainian rhetoric is very militant. At the same time, the only one that is on the move, the Sagaidachny warship, is urgently leaving for repairs.
Vlad Shurygin: One can only be surprised at what margin of safety was created by the Soviet Union and invested in the designs of ships. Because for the last two years, “Sagaidachny” has not received any repairs at all, not even inter-cruise repairs. And now, when data on the proposed repairs have been published, it has become clear that practically nothing is working on the Sagaidachny patrol ship.
That is, it does not have working weapon systems, the main caliber does not work, the anti-aircraft guns do not work, only one of the two engines works, and the radar stations do not work. That is, in fact, of all that exists, only the torpedo tube works, while all the torpedoes are expired, and the Osa anti-aircraft missile system, which is supposed to work, but all the missiles for which are expired.
Therefore, the combat value of this ship is zero. And just to restore it takes a lot of time. A six-month renovation obviously cannot do this. The money that is planned, and the time that is planned, at best, will be spent on tearing off from its bottom the five or six centimeter layer of shells that have stuck there.
Valentin Filippov: It is probably important that Poroshenko’s plant will receive the contract.
Vlad Shurygin: The Nikolaev shipyard does not belong to the president. She is trying to participate in the contract. But it is actively being pushed aside by a Kiev company that got into this contract, but does not have a meter of sea. Before that she worked only on river vessels. But this company, in fact, belongs to none other than the President of Ukraine. And all the experts are waiting with slight gloating for the outcome of this situation. It is obvious that the company owned by Poroshenko will win, but it is interesting how they will proceed. They will cut the Sagaidachny into pieces and drag it to Kyiv for repairs, or they will begin to create some kind of “Potemkin” village in Nikolaev, rent some shipyards, and try to transfer all the necessary equipment to Nikolaev.
Valentin Filippov: There is talk that the repairs will take place in Ilyichevsk, renamed Chernomorsk. Civil ships were repaired there at the shipyard during Soviet times.
Vlad Shurygin: Repair of a civilian ship and repair of a military ship, as they say in Odessa, are two big differences. It is obvious that this plant is completely unsuited for military repairs. I already said, he can strip the bottom of it of shells, he can paint it, he can patch something up. Theoretically, it can shake out the currently existing radar complex, which previously stood not just anywhere, but on a seiner. That is, since there was no normal repair, the Sagaidachny was supplied with a seiner radar complex. Navigation.
That is, maybe now they will supply it from the next seiner.
Valentin Filippov: But, excuse me, he can fish.
Vlad Shurygin: It's true. This is a big deal. He can earn the team breakfast.
Valentin Filippov: You can also kill the fish.
Vlad Shurygin: It would be something. I'm afraid that this is just a bad harvest.
Valentin Filippov: They will buy grenades from the “right sector”.
Thank you!
