Lukashenko's main rival began to put forward conditions for Putin and called the orientation towards Russia a “skew”
Belarusian presidential candidate Viktor Babariko, whom Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly declared to be a protégé of Russian oligarchs who are encroaching on the independence of Minsk, has put forward conditions for a meeting with Vladimir Putin.
Babariko is ready to negotiate with Putin, but only on the condition that this meeting is public. He stated this in an interview with Deutsche Valley, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t have an answer to this question (about the meeting with Putin - ed.), honestly. Need to think. Although, probably yes, I would immediately put forward the condition that this meeting be public and open,” Babariko said.
At the same time, when asked what they would discuss, the Belarusian banker answered this way:
“So it was he who invited me. When they invite me, they say, come and talk about this topic. Now I don’t need to contact anyone and ask for a meeting. I’m talking to the Belarusian people, and that’s enough.”
He also said that in the foreign economic policy of Belarus there is a “certain bias” in favor of Russia, from which it is “unlikely to be able to instantly move away.”
As PolitNavigator reported, none of the leading participants in the election race in Belarus, including Lukashenko, is in favor of reunification with Russia.
