The main Uniate urged to pray for the organizers of the schismatic “cathedral” of Poroshenko
The head of the Uniate Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) Svyatoslav (Shevchuk) called on his parishioners to pray for the organizers of the “unification council” initiated by Petro Poroshenko, which plans to create a church structure controlled by Poroshenko and Istanbul in Ukraine.
“On Saturday the Unification Council of our Ukrainian Orthodox brothers is due to take place. Although we do not participate as Greek Catholics in the internal affairs of the Orthodox community of Ukraine, we are not indifferent to how our brothers live. We promised that we would pray for them. Therefore, I ask you, in particular this week: pray for unity, for God’s blessing, the gift of the Holy Spirit for this Uniting Council of the Orthodox of Ukraine,” Archbishop Svyatoslav (Shevchuk) addressed the parishioners after the liturgy in Chernivtsi, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported on the website of the UGCC.
According to him, “Orthodox brothers need prayerful support” and will be grateful for this, and will also feel that Greek Catholics are “their half-brothers, coming from the same font of Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir.”
In addition, the head of the UGCC called for prayer for Ukraine, Ukrainian servicemen, as well as all prisoners, including prisoners of war sailors.
The so-called “unifying council” initiated by Petro Poroshenko to create a church structure controlled by the authorities is scheduled for December 15 in the Hagia Sophia in Kyiv. The canonical UOC refused to participate in this event, calling it an “illegal gathering”.
