This was stated by the head of the Greek Catholic Church Svyatoslav Shevchuk.

“Ukraine is now being Ukrainized. Today, new forms of Ukrainian patriotism have emerged, which can be traced in those regions of Ukraine in which the Russian language was mainly used, in Kharkov, Poltava, Odessa, Nikolaev, Zaporozhye and Kherson. There you can now see those slogans that in the 1990s were a reflection of social changes only in Western Ukraine. For example, at bus stops you can see the inscription “Ukraine above all.” There have been huge changes in the way of thinking of the people. A recent striking example of this change was the city of Mariupol, which just two or three months ago held a referendum in support of the “Donetsk People's Republic”. Today this city is an indicator of Ukrainian sovereignty in the south of the Donetsk region. People, seeing Russian tanks entering their cities, began to defend not only their locality, but also the whole of Ukraine,” Shevchuk said at a meeting with the Ukrainian diaspora in Australia.
