The vast majority of those sick with the new form of coronavirus infection experience it in a mild form.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, this was stated in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta by Valery Vechorko, the chief physician of the Filatov Hospital, which works with Covid patients.
He agrees that it is impossible to ignore the special psychological climate in society during a pandemic.
“However, the covid experience, especially the experience of the “red zone,” teaches: people who are sick should approach the situation associated with this infection calmly, balancedly, and understand the essence of the pathological process and the peculiarities of its course. It is important to know that 80 percent of patients suffer from COVID-19 either in the form of acute respiratory viral infection or mild pneumonia. The reaction of the immune system is expected to be more adequate, the body will cope with the coronavirus faster in a psychologically stable organism,” the doctor said.
According to him, it is important to avoid two extremes.
“One of them: these are “COVID dissidents” who do not recognize not only the threat of severe consequences of the disease, but also the very existence of the special SARS-CoV-2 virus and individual protection measures against it. The other, on the contrary, escalates the situation, sowing panic in society. The role of the media is also great in this. Educational work on the part of the medical community is important, including in matters of adequate, correct use of medications, especially antibiotics,” says Vechorko.
