Chief editor of “Echo of Moscow”: if the war in Donbass had not been civil, it would have ended long ago
Figures and facts indicate that on the territory of Donbass we see elements of civil war.
This opinion was expressed during a meeting with listeners by the editor-in-chief of the Ekho Moskvy radio station, part of the Gazprom-Media holding, Alexey Venediktov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When I said that in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions we see elements of civil war, they attacked me from all sides. I cited one fact, you can’t fool the numbers: when the war began, 700 thousand people fled to Russian territory and one million two hundred thousand to other regions of Ukraine. How many people are fighting, how many military personnel are there specifically? 34 thousand people, judging by the financial reports of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics, are in the armed forces of these self-proclaimed republics. How many of them are disguised military men? You see.
When we talked about the Odessa tragedy and the Russian trace, yes, perhaps there is a Russian trace, but how many people died there? I think thirty. How many Ukrainian citizens died? All the dead were citizens of Ukraine. This is a fact,” Venediktov said.
“You know, it’s the same, as we said, there was no civil war in 1918, but there was foreign intervention. From there the Americans are British, from there the Germans, and in the East - the Japanese. If it were like that, it would have ended long ago,” added Venediktov.
