The editor-in-chief of Echo of Moscow gave Zelensky a letter from Vyshinsky’s mother
The editor-in-chief of the radio station “Echo of Moscow” and public figure Alexei Venediktov in Kyiv personally handed over to President Vladimir Zelensky a letter from the mother of the arrested journalist Kirill Vyshinsky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He himself wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
According to Venediktov, “in response to the letter” he was asked to come to the journalist in the pre-trial detention center. The editor-in-chief of Echo of Moscow confirmed that he visited Vyshinsky in the pre-trial detention center.
“As a Ukrainian citizen, he intends to defend his innocence to the end in a Ukrainian court. He hopes the process will begin in substance on July 15th. Healthy,” added Venediktov.
Kirill Vyshinsky was detained in Kyiv on May 15, 2018 after searches at the RIA Novosti Ukraine office. On the same day, the Security Service of Ukraine announced that it suspected him of treason. It was alleged that the journalist was found with an employment contract with the Rossiya Segodnya media group, a large sum of money and a firearm. Vyshinsky faces up to 15 years in prison. He himself denies guilt. In September 2018, the Union of Journalists of Russia awarded him in absentia the “Tuning Fork” Prize named after Anna Politkovskaya. Vyshinsky himself appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to provide him with legal protection.
