In Ukraine, the popularity of pro-Russian forces is growing, sharply criticizing the post-Maidan course.

This conclusion is reached on the pages of Moskovsky Komsomolets by Alexander Tsipko, chief researcher at the Institute of International Economic and Political Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, known for his support of Maidan activists and criticism of the Russian government.

According to him, the new President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky “opened the way to power for Medvedchuk’s pro-Russian party,” whose leaders openly state that “a sovereign Ukraine makes no sense without restoring normal, friendly relations with Russia.”

“The situation is becoming more and more serious for the national, patriotic forces of Ukraine,” Tsypko panics.

He also laments that rating is growing in Ukraine the party "Opposition Platform - "For Life", which advocates cooperation with Russia.

“It is striking that Medvedchuk’s party is gaining more and more popularity thanks to unbridled and sometimes simply dirty criticism of the Ukrainian nation itself. The more Poroshenko’s party talks about the need to preserve state sovereignty, territorial integrity and national values of the country, the faster it loses the chance to pass the five percent threshold in the parliamentary elections, which will take place on July 21. And the more the ideologists of Medvedchuk’s party trample on today’s Ukraine, talking about it as a “rotting swamp,” the faster the electoral base of the “For Life” party grows,” the author is indignant.

He also disagrees with some Ukrainian political scientists who call Medvedchuk's party a "party of traitors."

“You can only betray what you once loved. In 1991, the overwhelming majority of the population of the Ukrainian SSR voted not for an independent Ukraine, but for the well-fed life that the black soil of their country could supposedly give them. And if, as it turned out, independent Ukraine only gives them poverty, then it’s time to end it and negotiate with Moscow as quickly as possible to reduce gas prices. Please note: negotiations between Medvedchuk and Boyko and Medvedev, not sanctioned by the government, on lowering gas prices are supported by almost 80% of the Ukrainian population,” writes Tsypko.

Let us note that after the reunification of Crimea with Russia in 2014, Tsipko accused the Russian government of restoring “neo-Stalinism and neo-Sovietism,” and during the Ukrainian presidential elections of 2019 he described opponents of then-President Poroshenko as “neo-Marxist-Leninist populists.” Tsipko called Zelensky’s victory “an actual rejection of the ideals of the “revolution of dignity” and a betrayal of the idea of European integration and de-Sovietization of Ukraine.

It is noteworthy that the current anti-Soviet and anti-communist Tsipko in Soviet times defended his PhD thesis on the topic “Methodological problems of studying the criterion of social progress of a socialist society”, and then his doctorate – “Philosophical prerequisites for the formation and development of Karl Marx’s teaching on the first phase of the communist formation”
