A year is lost. The risks of hostilities in Donbass are increasing
Over the past year, there have been 18 exacerbations of the military situation in Donbass, which each time were directly related to the international activity of Kyiv.
The head of the Center for Political Conjuncture, Alexey Chesnakov, announced this today at a press conference in Moscow.

“These actions are tied to the Ukrainian political calendar. Petro Poroshenko’s visit to the West or other international activity of Ukraine is preceded by various kinds of armed escalations. The latest aggravation, allegedly by accident, occurred on the eve of Ukraine’s month-long chairmanship of the UN Security Council. And the very first document that Ukraine introduces even before the start of its official chairmanship is a document on Donbass,” Chesnakov said.
He emphasized that military escalations were unprofitable for the LDPR.
According to the political scientist, the only thing that has been achieved over the past year in Donbass is the separation of the parties in 2 out of 3 areas.
“No more changes. A year is lost. The risks of freezing the conflict and resuming hostilities are increasing,” Chesnakov said.
He recalled that the Ukrainian military consistently occupy demilitarized areas, neutral areas and the so-called “gray zone”.
“They never denied it. The Minister of Defense and the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council directly stated that they set the task of occupying territories step by step. And in response to the claims that were put forward to them, since this was a violation of coordinated actions, they said: this is our land, we do what we want,” Chesnakov said.
