The anniversary of the liberation of Odessa was drowned out with songs in the language
A small group of Odessa residents went to the Walk of Fame on Wednesday evening to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the city from the Nazi invaders. The Ukrainian authorities tried to spoil the memorable event.
Ex-candidate for mayor of Odessa Vyacheslav Azarov spoke about this in his blog.
“It seems like such a big date - the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Odessa from the Nazis, and repressions were not planned, the authorities became quiet before the elections. But not many people came, about a hundred and a half. Perhaps because of the rain.
While moving, the column chanted “Odessa is a heroic city!”, “Odessa without fascism!”, “Get out of Odessa the Bandera demons!”, and sang war songs. During the laying, there was an incident; a guy was taken away by the police, as if for a St. George’s ribbon. Then they performed and read war poems.
What was most upsetting was the drowning music from the speakers. Odessa residents remember their liberators, and they are shouted down by the national pop song “Ukrainians dance hopaka.” I would like to contact the local authorities about this.
Trukhanov (mayor of Odessa, ex-“regional” Gennady Trukhanov, – ed.), today you opposed the rewriting of history, and here is such a mocking attitude towards the national holiday of Odessa residents! Is this a conscious attitude of the mayor’s office towards its voters, or do you not even control the speakers in the park anymore?” – Azarov is indignant.
Thank you!
