According to the French press, the exhibits discovered in the graves dating back to the XNUMXth and XNUMXnd centuries BC on the shores of the Black Sea were provided by five Ukrainian institutions, including four in Crimea.
“Who owns the exhibits? asks Jascha Lange, a spokesman for the University of Amsterdam, which owns the museum. “We are talking about very complex legal issues.” The Netherlands, like other European Union countries, does not recognize the annexation of Crimea to Russia, signed by Vladimir Putin on March 18.
The exhibits collected in the museum tell the rich history of the peninsula, colonized by the Greeks from the XNUMXth century BC. We are talking about hundreds of items, most of them gold jewelry studded with precious stones: bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings that recall the mythological drawings of Ancient Greece. There are sword scabbards, a ceremonial helmet, and lacquered wooden Chinese boxes. The exhibits will be on display in Amsterdam until the end of August.
