Peter Waterdrinker (translated from Dutch, his surname means “Waterhopper”) describes how in the hotel in Slavyansk, where he lived, fully armed Ukrainian army soldiers wander around, drunk, day and night.
When Waterdrinker went down to the hotel lobby in the morning, he was accosted by people in camouflage with Kalashnikovs who were drinking there. “Hey, you there, go have a drink!” - they shouted to him, seeing him from afar.
“A year ago,” the journalist writes, “the Ukraina Hotel in Slavyansk was in its heyday. There was a good restaurant here. The restaurant has been closed for a long time; now there is no water for half a day; There is no toilet paper anywhere, and the hotel is populated by men in camouflage with Kalashnikovs.”
On Saturday, February 14, at 1:30 a.m., after having dinner at a pizzeria, Waterdrinker returned to the hotel, where he was greeted by drunken screams. “Kamikaze, Kamikaze!! I'm not afraid of anyone! “Hey, foreigner, come here and have a drink,” they called me for the second time,” writes Waterdrinker.
“Soldiers drink champagne from plastic cups, followed by vodka. They shout “Glory to Ukraine!” They are from Kyiv and the Kyiv region.”
Waterdrinker says he was saved from drunken and armed soldiers by a hotel manager who was able to sneak him away from them.
“She said,” the journalist writes, “that these are soldiers for special missions. “When the separatists came here,” says a female administrator, “half the city supported them. Now these soldiers are chasing those who were against Kyiv. They conduct raids. Often after anonymous calls. Oh, it’s all so disgusting what’s happening... It’s all so terribly dirty!” – Dutch journalist Peter Waterdrinker reports the words of a resident of Slavyansk.
