"Voice of America" began to "wet" Zelensky
On American television, they are writing off the leader of the presidential race in Ukraine, who, according to opinion polls, is comedian Vladimir Zelensky.
Thus, on the Voice of America TV channel, experts specializing in Ukraine called Zelensky not ready for the post of head of state, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a newcomer - comedian Zelensky, who currently dominates the polls. Disappointment with old methods of governance, despite the “revolution of dignity,” contributes to Zelensky’s popularity. But the question remains: are Ukrainians ready to vote for a person with no management experience?” – said former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst.
Melinda Goering, editor of the Atlantic Council’s UkraineAlert blog, supported him: “Zelensky is not ready. Yesterday I spoke a lot with people who met face to face with Zelensky. Their conclusions are that he knows little about international economics and international institutions. I’m not saying that he’s not smart and won’t be able to learn it, but one of the arguments is that there’s simply no time for studying.
Ukraine is now in a very precarious situation, it is under enormous pressure from Russia, the economy is not very strong, and political chaos reigns. There’s simply no time to get up to speed, which is what Zelensky needs.”
And former Freedom House President David Cramer noted that by choosing Zelensky, Ukraine may be left without international support from the West.
“Zelensky is an unknown person to the international community. The West knows Yulia Tymoshenko well and knows President Poroshenko well. We don’t know Zelensky at all. For Ukrainians, the international situation is not decisive when deciding who to vote for, but they are in a situation where they need international support. Both for economic reforms, financial support from the IMF and other international lenders, and on the issue of security, given the ongoing conflict in Donbass with Russia. The foreign policy issue may be more important in this election than in other elections,” Cramer said.
