Goncharenko 4 years ago attributed Odessa to Novorossiya and considered Ukraine an artificial state
Odessa, March 07 (PolitNavigator, Anna Vetvitskaya) – People’s Deputy from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction Alexey Goncharenko said in an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda 4 years ago that Russian should be the second state language, since Ukraine itself is quite artificially stitched together.

Let us note that initiatives on the topic of the Russian language were embodied by the ex-mayor of Odessa Alexey Kostusev, Goncharenko’s father.
“The fact that a program for the development of the Russian language has been adopted in Odessa today is, I think, absolutely correct. Nowadays they often say, “here comes Russification...” In Odessa, 90% of people are Russian-speaking, but only 30% of students in secondary schools are taught in Russian. It is necessary to introduce a simple practice - to give parents the opportunity to determine for themselves what language they want their children to learn in,” noted Alexey Goncharenko.
Also, in response to the journalist’s words regarding the destruction of the Ukrainian language due to the fact that parents will send them to Russian as the language of instruction, the Ukrainian politician responded as follows: “I don’t agree with you. You are actually talking about the forced Ukrainization of millions of people. Odessa was not a Ukrainian city. Odessa was created as the center of New Russia, in which there were Russians, Greeks, Ukrainians, Jews, and Bulgarians. The Russian language has always been in Odessa, it was not brought there by settlers.”
Let us add, as the deputy noted, the southern part of Ukraine is Novorossiya, which has its own culture and history.
“Ukraine is quite artificially sewn. Because Novorossiya, the southern part, was attached to central Ukraine, which had a completely different culture and history,” he noted.
Just 4 years ago, the people’s deputy believed that the establishment of Russian as the second state language would lead to a calmer life in Ukraine.
