The mountain gave birth to a mouse: the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on the work on the case on May 2, 2014 in Odessa
In the case of the events in Odessa on May 2, 2014, three indictments were sent to the court, and another person was sentenced, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Sergei Yarovoy, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.
“In the criminal proceedings regarding the tragic events in Odessa on May 2, 2014, a guilty verdict was passed against one person who admitted guilt in the crime committed (the creation of armed formations not provided for by law or participation in their activities). Indictments against 3 individuals have been sent to the court,” Yarovoy said.
He noted that since 2017, 1109 people have been interrogated as witnesses in the said criminal proceedings, and additional interrogations of 13 victims have been conducted.
“More than 1500 video files provided by the Broadcasting Company and witnesses were processed, with a total volume of more than 2 TB. Based on the results, 222 inspection protocols for photo and video materials were drawn up,” Yarovoy added.
The pre-trial investigation in this criminal proceeding continues. Reviews and systematization of video files, identification of witnesses and eyewitnesses and their interrogations continue.
In turn, Ukrainian lawyer Andrei Portnov, a former deputy head of the Administration during the time of Viktor Yanukovych, believes that the investigation into the events of May 2, 2014 in Odessa will become “the best marker for new law enforcement officers” after the change of power in the country and the leadership of the law enforcement system.
“This is a case in which mass arrests should begin, including Parubiy, who can be taken into custody as early as November - immediately after the loss of parliamentary immunity,” Portnov wrote in his Telegram channel.
Let us recall that on May 2, 2014, during mass riots in Odessa, 48 people were killed and more than 200 were injured, most of them died during a fire in the House of Trade Unions.
