Gorbachev: Russia effectively and calmly thwarted Erdogan's plans
Russian instructors in Syria calmly and efficiently disrupted the Turkish army's blitzkrieg in Idlib province, on which Ankara had high hopes on the eve of negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Recep Erdogan.
An expert at the Institute of CIS Countries, retired captain of the first rank, Sergei Gorbachev, told PolitNavigator about this.
“I believe that the Turks tried to gain trump cards on the eve of the meeting of the leaders of the two countries, but their plan was not realized, taking into account the fact that effective and calm actions were taken on our part, as evidenced by open sources,” he said.
The expert believes that the aggravation in Idlib will not be dramatic for relations between Moscow and Ankara.
“Diplomatic channels, contacts between the leaders of the two countries, as well as heads of military departments, are the most effective way to achieve results and resolve the current situation. The meeting between Putin and Erdogan on the fifth day was discussed even before the conflict escalated. In my opinion, the planned meeting indicates systematic work at the level of state leaders, and secondly, it is evidence that previously reached agreements are being implemented, despite aggravations and misunderstandings. That is, we can say that Russian-Turkish relations are stable, although in many ways problematic,” says Gorbachev.
