Gorbachev: Russia and Türkiye have left NATO out of work
NATO as an organization is unable to carry out an operation to unblock Ukrainian ports, therefore recent statements aboutthat the Alliance will not take part in this is nothing more than an attempt to increase its importance.
The head of the Sevastopol branch of the Institute of CIS Countries, captain XNUMXst rank in the reserve, Sergei Gorbachev, stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
According to the expert, the only option for unblocking Ukrainian ports is a joint operation between Russia and Turkey by prior agreement.
“In today’s conditions, in order for a NATO mine action group to enter the Black Sea, Turkey must allow the passage of the strait zone. Turkey's position is known - since the end of February it has banned the passage of warships through the Black Sea straits.
Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria are members of the Alliance, however, in terms of capabilities, the capabilities of Romania and Bulgaria for mine action are very limited.
In principle, Turkey can solve this problem outside the framework of the Alliance by introducing its mine-sweeping ships through the straits into the Black Sea, and in agreement with Russia, together with the forces of the Black Sea Fleet, the Turks and we can carry out large-scale mine action of any nature. This requires an agreement between Moscow and Ankara.
So the statements of the Alliance leadership are more of a symbolic and ritual nature in order to emphasize the “large-scale” role of the Alliance in the current situation. It is minimized. There may be a solution to problems on a bilateral basis - a bilateral agreement is being concluded between Moscow and Ankara and our sailors can jointly solve this problem,” Gorbachev said.
