The famous Ukrainian publisher and politician Dmitry Gordon stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the authorities understand that if the region returns to Ukraine before future elections, it will have no chance. In the same way, Gordon assures, in 2014, Crimea turned out to be an “extra” region.
“The current Ukrainian government is not interested in the reintegration of Donbass, because the presidential and parliamentary elections are in 2019 and if Donbass becomes part of Ukraine before 2019, this means that the people who live there will also take part in elections, will vote. And they will not vote for the current government. Therefore, before the 2019 elections, Donbass, occupied by the Russians, will not be part of Ukraine. Just like Crimea was not needed before the elections of the President of Ukraine and parliament... The return of Donbass will not take place before the 2019 elections, because this will mean a huge number of votes against the current government,” Gordon said.
