Proud Yatsenyuk will buy coal from the “aggressor”

Kyiv, January 09 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Semenyuta) – The government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk cannot decide: to trade or fight with Russia.

Despite numerous accusations against Moscow about military intervention in the conflict in Donbass, in January Ukraine plans to purchase 620 thousand tons of coal from Russia for the operation of thermal power plants. Otherwise, massive rolling blackouts will resume in the coming days.

Due to military operations in the Donbass, coal production in Ukraine decreased by 22% compared to 2013. This was announced by the First Deputy Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Zyukov.

Approximately half of the mines producing coal for Ukrainian thermal power plants remained in territory uncontrolled by Kiev. This led to a serious shortage of fuel and forced power engineers to implement massive rolling blackouts of consumers.

To solve the problem of fuel shortage, Ukraine plans to import about 620 thousand tons of coal from the Russian Federation in January.

Kyiv has repeatedly refused to purchase coal from mines located on the territory of the DPR/LPR, despite its cheapness and simple supply chain. Instead, the authorities were working on semi-fantastic schemes for purchasing coal from Australia, Kazakhstan and even France.
