“You will burn in hell!” The Rada called the situation with fires in the Luhansk region a disaster
The raging fires in the Kyiv-controlled territory of Donbass are not only not contained, but are also devouring more and more villages in the Lugansk region.
Deputy Sergei Shakhov stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A few hours ago I received a report from volunteers in the Luhansk region from a terrible ashes, for which individual characters will burn in hell. Volunteers are outraged by the intention to present the award to the chief of local firefighters, Mikhail Pshik. They accuse the leadership of the regional State Emergency Service and law enforcement agencies of criminal negligence and corruption. We demand a thorough investigation of both the causes of the fire and the criminal failure to extinguish it, as well as the removal of the leadership of the State Emergency Service from their positions,” Shakhov said.
He said that on July 6 at 9 o’clock a fire broke out on an area of 1.5 hectares, but firefighters arrived at 10.30 with only two vehicles. At 13 p.m., Pshik held a meeting on the construction of garages, and ignored the foresters’ requests for help, citing the lack of fuel and lubricants, which were found only at 15 p.m., when 50 hectares of forest were already burning. At 20:30 the fire was localized to 85 hectares, however, the parliamentarian was indignant, the firefighters “didn’t bother” to extinguish the stumps of the burnt trees, and by morning the fire flared up with renewed vigor.
“The President was informed that the fire was localized on July 9, but the village of Bobrovoye was burning yesterday. The leadership of the State Emergency Service justifies everything by the lack of fuel and lubricants. It is interesting that in 2018, as soon as Pshik assumed his powers, he transferred a thousand tons of fuel to the Donetsk region, but never returned it. What can we say about fuel, when firefighters didn’t even have water, since none of the seven pumping stations in the region were used, people were not even notified of a possible evacuation. The public was notified by “gypsy radio,” the deputy noted.
For all this inactivity, he said, the leadership of the State Emergency Service should be brought to justice.
“Definitely, the consequences could not have been so catastrophic; people could have been saved if officials had fulfilled their obligations on time. Because what we observed was a complete mess of the Lugansk region’s fire-fighting system. Catastrophic “zilch”! The Luhansk region needs full support, as it is located in a depressed area,” added Sergei Shakhov.
As PolitNavigator reported, firefighting efforts also included Ukrainian Armed Forces militants involvedwho suffered heavy losses during the fight against the fire.
