A bitter pill for Belarus
Most likely, the European side forced Ukraine to join sanctions against Belarus, because Ukraine should have done this a long time ago.
Political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko stated this in an interview with the Glavnovosti channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for Ukraine’s decision to join European sanctions against Belarus, most likely the issue that was raised in Europe, to which Ukraine practically joined back in 2004, lay under the carpet somewhere. And as a result, Ukraine was simply hinted that it was time to know the honor - sign the document that you have been unable to sign for 16 years.
From Ukraine’s point of view, these are nothing more than symbolic sanctions that are unlikely to radically affect the relationship between Minsk and Kiev. But from Minsk’s point of view, this is such a bitter pill to swallow. This is not a particularly good time to remember that something has not been signed against Belarus for about 16 years,” Bondarenko said.
