“Yesterday there was no bread in the city. Empty shelves with packs of crackers from BBK and whole crowds of people wanting to get a hot flour product in the confectionery and bakery department of Furshet and Amstor. You can hardly find wide adhesive tape in stores. People mostly pay with cards. Almost all ATMs are empty. There are no street vendors. Many kiosks with food products are closed,” reports the Gorlovka publication.
The asphalt is furrowed with nicks from tank tracks along the main highways of the city. “Passers-by looking at the sky and windows of high-rise buildings taped crosswise. To reach someone, you need to dial the number seven or eight times. Either the line is overloaded or the number is reset. Those who have contacted the right subscriber most often talk about how “they will definitely break through at night,” local journalists write.
“There is almost no fear in people’s eyes. There are everyday pragmatics - where to run, what to take with you, how to hide from shrapnel. Some people say that you shouldn’t leave the house, others say that you should be near a bomb shelter. The entrances and windows in the entrances do not close. “Spotted SUVs” drive through the city from time to time. Often in closed sidewalk areas. People tell each other where the anti-aircraft guns are, at what time and how many times they fired. At night before going to bed, citizens listen to the sounds of the street,” they report.
According to the publication, illegal taxi drivers work in the city, ready to take those who want to escape from Gorlovka to Donetsk.
Since today people were expecting an assault, the city, according to eyewitnesses, became extinct: there were practically no passers-by on the streets. According to local residents, they want to make a second Slavyansk from Gorlovka. On social networks they are actively discussing which area of the city is the most dangerous.
As Navigator reported, shelling of the city began on July 21. Today two bridges and railway tracks were blown up.
