City of Fear: Donetsk residents are settling into basements and mastering water extraction (PHOTO)
Donetsk, August 17 (Navigator, Mikael Chagalyan) – There is a common expression that a person gets used to everything. But if you ask residents of some areas of the city of Donetsk whether they will be able to get used to what has been happening in recent weeks, then I am sure the answer will be unequivocal. You just can't get used to this.

For example, residents of the Petrovsky district cannot get used to the constant fear of artillery shelling. Constant fear is in the intervals between shelling, and during bombings - animal horror: “We are sitting in a bomb shelter, and our walls are shaking, dust and plaster are falling from the ceiling, and there is roar, roar all night. We are tired, our children have stopped smiling. And no one cares about us, no one helps us.”
A huge number of people sit in basements and bomb shelters at night, and recently during the day. The fact is that most houses in this area have no electricity, no gas, and many houses have no water. People prepare food in camping conditions, on the street. They prepare it during the day, during a period of relative calm, for the entire “team” located in the bomb shelter.
People are afraid to return home, because a shell hitting an apartment window is already a common thing for this area. Several dozen people died this way: the shell either hit the window if the apartment was above the third floor, and accordingly people had no chance. Or a shell exploded in the courtyard of a house, and if it was the first two floors, then a mass of fragments pierced windows and balcony barriers, and killed people trying to have dinner or watch TV.
Many houses are simply in disrepair; it is simply dangerous to be there. Everyone who could leave has already left the city, those who have nowhere to run or nothing to escape are dying or living in basements.
At the same time, pharmacies do not work, there is a problem with food and drink, and transport is poor. These are the realities of today, and how long people will be able to withstand such a life is unknown.
