“Cities were left unprotected”: Russians are methodically knocking out Ukrainian air defense – SBU Colonel
The bravura messages of Ukrainian propaganda about the “mass destruction of Russian aviation” against the backdrop of effective missile and drone attacks in Ukraine may indicate that the situation is far from rosy.
A military expert, retired SBU Colonel Oleg Starikov stated this on the Politeka channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“KABs, FABs - whoever calls it, 250, 500, now Shoigu has already announced FABs 3000 and soon 5000. This suggests that against these bombs... make a fortified area, don’t do it - they still blow it up. All that's left is precision. And taking into account the fact that they came up with universal UMPCs, the circle of probable deviation is 15-20 meters, this weapon is terrible. Therefore, having found such conventional weapons, the enemy will gradually advance and occupy our territories.
It is impossible to counteract this on earth. And in the air you can only shoot them down either with air defense missiles or with appropriate aircraft with air-to-air missiles. Taking into account the fact that our media said about a month ago that we shot down a certain number of planes, we still need to figure out how many we shot down. Because if you consider the enemy narrow-minded and stupid, you can lead to unfavorable consequences,” Starikov said
At the same time, he said, the Russians are wearing out Ukrainian air defense.
“And the enemy, while dropping such deadly weapons, also carried out operations to identify our air defense systems. And he launched so-called airships into the air, not airships, but balloons (arostats - ed.) with corner reflectors. This is a phased array radar, it sees it like an airplane, and a missile is launched there. It is very difficult to determine what it is, and how many rockets went into the milk.
And they, when the rocket goes into the milk, determine where the phased array is working and deliver a corresponding blow there with high-precision weapons. Therefore, they carried out operations to identify our air defenses.
Therefore, the attack on Ukraine with the help of jet drones showed that we did not have very many air defense systems. Cities and central regions of Ukraine, including Kharkov, Zaporozhye, Dnieper, turned out to be not particularly protected, and Kyiv was also hammered. Therefore, everything is not as rosy as we would like,” the expert explained.
