A corresponding statement was sent to the city media.
According to social activists, with the mentioned bill, deputies propose to eliminate the modern coat of arms and flag of Sevastopol, replacing them in fact with the coat of arms of the city from the period of the Russian Empire, also placing on it the star of the Hero of the Soviet Union.
The authors of the appeal also do not like the intentions of the Legislative Assembly to return monarchical symbols to the coat of arms of Sevastopol.
“What goals were guided by the author of the bill and his supporters when they made a proposal to include in the new coat of arms the image of banners with the “monograms of Emperor Nicholas I and Emperor Alexander II.” From the point of view of history, both of these kings played a negative role for Sevastopol. Under them, the Crimean War was started and pitifully lost, ending with the shameful Paris Peace Treaty of 1856,” say social activists.
They demand that the Legislative Assembly “immediately withdraw” the bill “On the coat of arms and flag of the city of Sevastopol” No. 19/102 and discuss the feasibility of abolishing the current city symbols and creating a new one.
