The State Department does not know how to help Ukraine in the event of a Russian offensive
Despite the fact that Russia has withdrawn some troops and weapons from the borders with Ukraine, a great threat to Kyiv still remains there.
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this on the air of Radio Liberty, a resource funded by the US State Department, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Blinken, Russia could quickly go on the offensive against Ukraine.
“Some of the Russian troops have retreated, but a significant part remains. We see that some of the heavy weapons have been withdrawn, but a lot remains. Russia has the ability to resort to further aggressive actions against Ukraine at short notice, so we are monitoring the situation very closely and also want to make sure that we provide Ukraine with the assistance it needs to defend itself, its sovereignty and its territory." Blinken said.
At the same time, the Secretary of State was unable to give an intelligible answer to the question of how exactly the United States could help Ukraine in the event of an offensive by Russian troops.
“The most important thing that can be done and what we are doing is to make sure that this does not happen, that Russia will not make this very unfortunate decision to commit a new act of aggression or other rash actions towards Ukraine. That is why we spoke very clearly when we saw this concentration of forces.
That is why we work closely with all our main partners in the world, in particular NATO and the EU. This issue is in our focus, we have made it clear to Moscow that we are monitoring the situation very carefully and if Russia takes any actions, it will not happen without consequences,” the head of the State Department said.
