The State Department is concerned about the Russian-Chinese alliance and threatens Beijing
The United States threatens China and any other countries that cooperate with Russia in defiance of American sanctions with “serious consequences.”
State Department spokesman Ned Price stated this at a briefing in Washington, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are very closely monitoring the extent to which the PRC or any other country in the world is providing support - material, economic, financial, rhetorical or otherwise - to this war that President Putin is waging against the government of Ukraine, against the state of Ukraine, against the people of Ukraine. And we have made it very clear both privately with Beijing and publicly with Beijing that any such support will have consequences….
That's the problem. We have made it clear that any country that tries to pull Russia out of this economic and financial quagmire will face consequences. We will make sure that no country can get away with such a thing,” Price said.
He also emphasized that at the same time, the United States sees an obvious rapprochement between Russia and China.
“Without attempting or going too deeply into the analysis of the relationship that separates two sovereign countries, I will say that what seems to unite them is a vision of the world that stands in stark contrast to that of the United States and our allies and partners.” not only built, promoted and defended, but with a system that itself benefited countries such as the PRC and Russia. It is a free and open rules-based order that has governed relations between nations for more than 70 years.
This is a very clear case of two autocracies with a desire to see the world more closed, less open, less free, coming together, joining forces in some way, and we are watching very carefully to determine the form that any such cooperation might take." summarized the American official.
