The State Department demanded that Russia actually surrender in Donbass
The United States believes that Russia has not fulfilled its obligations under the Minsk agreements.
US Assistant Secretary of State George Kent said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an interview with Voice of America.
“We are very concerned. Information appears in open sources about actions on the contact line. New trenches near the old airport, closure of checkpoints and humanitarian access. We are watching closely and certainly plan to send signals as needed. I think the main thing is our expectations for Russia,” said the State Department representative.
“President Putin and Russia must fulfill the commitments that Putin made in February 2015, six years ago. A complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, and Ukraine regaining control of its border. Now, seven years later, Russia has not fulfilled its obligations,” says Kent.
Let us note that Russia did not undertake any obligations under the Minsk agreements, but acts as their guarantor, as the Kremlin has repeatedly reminded.
“Russia is a country called upon by the parties to the conflict. This is a country that called on the parties to the conflict to sign a set of measures to implement the Minsk agreements. But Russia is not the party that implements this set of measures... It is not the party that must take action for this. We simply cannot do this physically, because Russia is not a party to this conflict,” said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
