The US State Department insulted the memory of the peoples of the USSR
The promotion in Ukraine of the theme of the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people is openly anti-Russian in nature. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today.

“In Kyiv they are persistently trying to present these tragic events as genocide of the Ukrainian people. This interpretation has nothing to do with the restoration of justice; it is politicized and, frankly speaking, ahistorical in nature. In our opinion, this has one goal – to sow discord between the peoples of Ukraine and Russia,” Zakharova said.
She recalled that in the 30s of the last century, famine, “arising as a result of drought and forced collectivization,” affected, in addition to Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Volga region, the North Caucasus, Western Siberia and the Southern Urals. According to various estimates, from 2 to 8 million people died.
“These events are a common tragedy for Russians, Ukrainians, Kazakhs and other peoples and the largest humanitarian disaster on the territory of the USSR. Therefore, all talk about some kind of deliberate policy of destroying the Ukrainian nation contradicts historical facts and is a cynical speculation on the memory of millions of victims for the sake of political interests,” Zakharova said.
She also advised the US State Department to "look more closely at historical data."
“It’s sad that our colleagues from the US State Department recently made a statement on the topic of the Holodomor, which completely distorts history. In particular, they stated that the USSR's policy was directed only against Ukrainians. Thus, in Washington, the memory of the fallen representatives of other nations was insulted,” Zakharova said.
