The US State Department supported Ukraine: first – the border, then – elections in Donbass
Fulfillment of the security conditions of the Minsk agreements, which Kyiv insists on, is a top priority, and only after that can a political component in the form of elections in uncontrolled territories be introduced, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the acting US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker during a meeting of the OSCE Foreign Ministers Council in Bratislava, the White House website reports.
“I just arrived from Kyiv, where I reaffirmed US support for Ukraine. The Administration of President Zelensky is implementing internal reforms and taking steps to intensify the peace process in eastern Ukraine. We welcome the recent disengagement of forces in Petrivske, Stanytsia Luhanska and Zolote. We support the Normandy format summit scheduled for next Monday in Paris, and we hope for a positive result that will bring the restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity closer,” said Ricoeur.
A representative of the State Department once again “ran into” Russia.
“The political aspect of the Minsk agreements and future agreements should be implemented only after security conditions allow it,” said Reeker, noting that the security situation in Europe is marked by mistrust due to Russian actions.
The “Normandy” meeting is scheduled for May 9 in Paris. The meeting will be attended by leaders of four countries: Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany. The first meeting of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky with Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected.
