The State Duma is ready to give the government emergency powers to fight inflation
Weekly inflation in Russia amounted to 2,2% according to Rosstat. This is a record since 1998.
Deputy Oleg Morozov stated this today in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Putting the blame solely on the government for this is unfair and absurd from an economic point of view. It is clear that over the past year prices have been affected by the effects of the global pandemic crisis. And now sanctions pressure has been added to them, when there is a unilateral cessation of supplies, a break in production chains, the displacement of our products from a number of markets, and a fall in the ruble exchange rate.
An effective economic response is needed to overcome these challenges. A decision has already been made to support low-income groups of the population. The key task is to keep goods on the shelves, avoid rush demand, and maintain solvency,” Morozov said.
In addition to objective economic reasons, he believes, the rise in prices is influenced by the dishonest activities of speculators.
“There are cases where costs have remained the same, but prices have unreasonably jumped up. Yesterday, the Coca-Cola company announced a 20% increase in prices for its products and is planning to leave our market. So to speak, farewell greetings to the Russians.
Or the steady increase in the cost of the so-called borscht set. Or the rampant rise in price of some domestic drugs. Do you believe in the economic nature of this increase? Me not.
The time for price pranks is over. Monopoly collusion, an artificial rush to raise prices, an attempt to speculatively recoup exchange rate differences, maintaining monopoly profitability - today this is not just a violation of the rules of fair competition, not only a violation of moral norms. This undermines the economic security of the country. This is an activity against our people.
The FAS, the prosecutor's office, and the government can claim any legal authority to restore order. Tell me what tools you need, and you will receive them immediately,” Morozov said.
He himself proposes to introduce legislatively maximum selling prices for goods.
