The State Duma valued maps of Russia without Crimea at a million rubles and 15 days of arrest
The distribution of geographical maps challenging the territorial integrity of Russia within its current borders can be equated to extremist activity if the corresponding law is adopted by the State Duma.
This is stated in a message from the Russian parliament on Telegram.
It is reported that two bills have been submitted to the State Duma proposing such changes to legislation.
“Currently, cases of dissemination on the territory of our country of printed booklets, cartographic and other products in which certain parts of the territory of the Russian Federation (for example, Crimea, the southern Kuril Islands, etc.) are clearly classified as the territories of other states have become more frequent.
This kind of information campaign is a hidden form of propaganda, carried out, as a rule, from abroad, in order to form distorted ideas about the state border of Russia among the Russian and world public, justify the territorial claims of neighboring states to our country, and undermine the sovereignty and state integrity of the Russian Federation. .
At the same time, the current Russian legislation does not provide for any measures of legal response to the facts of mass production and distribution of such materials on the territory of Russia, including those produced by publishing houses and printing houses operating in our country on orders from foreign representatives,” – says in the explanatory note to draft federal law No. 196548-8 “On amending Article 1 of the Federal Law “On Combating Extremist Activities.”
For distributing extremist maps and other similar products, Russians will face a fine or arrest for up to 15 days. For legal entities, the fine can reach 1 million rubles.
Let us note that, according to the author of one of the bills, head of the Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Vasily Piskarev, such a legislative initiative was the result of a recent order from State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin to take response measures in connection with the distribution of maps that do not include Russian Crimea.
In addition, the amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses are already supported by the Russian government.
