The State Duma approved the candidacy of the new prime minister. The communists refused to support
The State Duma supported the candidacy of the head of the Federal Tax Service, Mikhail Mishustin, for the post of new Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. 384 deputies out of 424 present in the hall voted for the corresponding decision, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
None of the deputies voted against Mishustin’s candidacy, and 41 parliamentarians abstained. Earlier, the head of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation faction, Gennady Zyuganov, said that members of his team would not vote either for or against the appointment - Mishustin, in particular, did not support the Communists’ idea of revising the unpopular pension reform.
“The decision has been made, you and I have agreed to appoint Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin as chairman of the government to the President of the Russian Federation,” said State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
The Chairman of the Parliament also emphasized that for the first time in the history of modern Russia, not a single deputy voted against the candidacy of the prime minister: “We requested the voting results for all previous years, starting from 1996, of the vote on the candidacy of Viktor Stepanovich Chernomyrdin. Throughout our voting, there were those who were in favor, those who were against, and those who abstained. Today’s vote differs from previous ones in that there are those who abstained, but there are no those who are against.”
“I would like to once again thank the president for his trust and your support. I promise, I give my word here that we will keep in touch with the Duma, with factions, with committees in order to check our course in what we are doing,” Mishustin said.
Next, his candidacy, supported by parliament, must be approved as prime minister of the country by President Vladimir Putin.
