The State Duma will continue to simplify obtaining Russian citizenship for all Slavs
Covid has hit Russia's demographics, so it is necessary to make up for losses not only by increasing the birth rate, but by attracting citizens from Slavic countries, making it easier for them to obtain a Russian passport.
Political scientist Oleg Matveychev stated this on the Internet channel “Media Club Format A3”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“Now approximately two hundred thousand people a year receive Russian citizenship. We have seen that Covid has caused significant demographic losses in Russia; it is obvious that we need to restore them not only through the birth rate, although the birth rate will be stimulated in all possible ways.
Young people will be attracted from abroad, and in the coming years, three or four hundred thousand, and subsequently, maybe half a million people a year will receive Russian citizenship,” he said.
The expert also noted that the next convocation of the State Duma will solve the problem of the insufficiently preferential process for issuing Russian Federation passports to the Slavs.
“Basically now, Russian citizenship is obtained by immigrants from Ukraine, as well as countries of Central Asia, but we would like our brothers to be provided with a more preferential entry into Russian citizenship. Because people, after immigrating to Russia, receive citizenship only after six years, but someone is lucky, and it takes two years.
This is very bad, and this problem needs to be solved in order to obtain citizenship much faster. I think that the next convocation of the State Duma will take up this problem and next year there will be more lenient procedures in relation to the Slavic population,” added Matveychev.
In addition, the political scientist emphasized that there are several million people in line to receive a Russian passport.
“There are now a huge number of applications for Russian citizenship, and people are not afraid that they have to obtain residence permits for several years. There are already several million people in line,” said the political expert.
