The State Duma ratified an agreement with the CIS countries on veterans
The State Duma of the Russian Federation ratified today the “Agreement on the mutual recognition of benefits and guarantees for participants and disabled people of the Great Patriotic War, participants in hostilities on the territory of other states,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The agreement was signed by the Russian Federation in 1994. During this time, in some countries, as well as in the Russian Federation, benefits were replaced with monetary compensation. Accordingly, the agreement in the version in which it was originally adopted has lost its relevance,” said Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Russia Alexey Cherkasov during the presentation of ratification.
The Deputy Minister explained that ratification will not entail additional expenses from the budget of the Russian Federation, since the Russian law on veterans contains provisions that provide for the extension of benefits and guarantees to veterans who have foreign citizenship but live in the territory of the Russian Federation.
