Communist Party MP Oleg Smolin said that over the years there have been many complaints about Russians and other non-titular peoples in some republics being forced to study the languages of these republics.

“They will not force Russians to learn local languages. The position of the LDPR: even foreign languages should be studied as an optional subject. A smart person will learn, but anyone who is going to work as a forester or a road foreman doesn’t need it,” LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky commented on the adopted law.

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, welcomed the adoption of the new law.

“A true patriot of his people, his native land will never give up the language of his ancestors and parents! And no one will force anyone who believes that he does not need the Chechen, Tatar, Avar language to study it. “He, on the contrary, will proudly declare that he speaks Russian and English without an accent, but does not speak his native language, not knowing that he is thus devalued in the eyes of his interlocutors,” Kadyrov wrote in his telegram channel.

The opinion of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, in which the upcoming law was perceived very painfully, is unknown. Coincidentally, on July 23 he went on vacation until August 5.

The head of the department of ethics, cultural studies and public relations at the Bashkir State University, Leysyan Itkulova, called the law hypocritical.

“Gradually, native languages will die out in national republics. Currently, even in national villages, residents refuse to study their native languages. It’s getting to the point that in the villages of Bashkiria, parents give preference to learning the Russian language, since they assume that their children will have to take the Unified State Exam,” wrote Leysyan Itkulova in the telegram channel “Davydov.
