The State Duma, with a “technical glitch,” approved the annexation of former Ukrainian territories to Russia
The State Duma of the Russian Federation unanimously ratified today the agreements on the accession of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to Russia
413 State Duma deputies supported the adoption of the DPR into Russia, 412 - the adoption of the LPR, 409 - the Zaporozhye region and 411 - the Kherson region. There are no votes against or abstentions.
State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin asked the heads of the new regions present in the hall not to worry about the difference in the number of votes. He explained it as a technical glitch.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who presented the bills, hinted that the State Duma would soon have to vote on the admission of other new regions to Russia.
“I am confident that the next block of constitutional laws will be approved,” Lavrov said.
“This is exactly what everyone expected from you. You are a diplomat, you are always between the lines,” responded speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
“It’s not between, but for sure,” Lavrov replied.
