The State Duma has withdrawn from consideration the presidential bill on simplified acquisition of citizenship for children whose one parent is a citizen of Russia. It was adopted in all readings back in 2012, but the Federation Council rejected the document due to amendments made by deputies.

Communist Leonid Kalashnikov proposed not to remove the law, but to cancel the amendments that changed its essence.
“This is important for Ukraine, because there are many mixed marriages with our compatriots. There are millions of them. If the St. George’s ribbon was canceled there, then consent to a second citizenship will not be given,” Kalashnikov said.
He said that he communicated with compatriots from different countries who are really looking forward to this law.
“I have to say again: you have Gordon with dual citizenship, Posner with dual citizenship, and nothing, they go. But a compatriot, a native speaker, cannot receive it, because he needs to renounce his second citizenship. And he is not going to go to Russia, but wants to have a connection with it,” Kalashnikov said.
