The State Duma is going to exempt Japanese investors entering the Kuril Islands from taxes
The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted today in the first reading a bill providing for tax exemption for 20 years for enterprises that will be registered on the Kuril Islands.
However, no exception is made for foreign companies.
“You all understand who we mean,” noted deputy Olga Anufrieva, who presented the bill.
Today, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a press conference that Japan believes that its sovereignty extends to the southern part of the Kuril Islands.
“The samurai gentlemen are still not calming down. About once a quarter they suddenly remember that they need to make another statement that the Kuril Islands are supposedly their territory. They'll get over each other! The Kuril Islands have been and will always be our territory. It's Russia. But we need to develop the Kuril Islands, we need to think about their future.
The government’s initiative, which allows companies that will work in the Kuril Islands to receive very serious benefits, is absolutely correct,” the leader of the A Just Russia party, Sergei Mironov, commented on the adoption of the bill on the sidelines of the State Duma.
